THE THREAD SERIES

Although I began The Thread Series around 2005, it is far from complete: it is ongoing, being expanded as a particular piece demands threads.  In addition to continuing to work within this series, I use threads often in my other work, the end result being many crossover pieces that can be difficult to categorize.

I find hand tying the threads to be very meditative and somewhat hypnotic.

THE FIBER MOSAIC SERIES

The Fiber Mosaic Series also started in 2005 as a result of experimenting in my studio with paper and gel medium.  Stone Path 1 was the first fiber mosaic piece, and it incorporated another of my favorite supplies: thread.

I have used this technique in pieces outside the series as well: i.e. L’Artiste De Printemps A La Seurat in the mixed media category as well as other pieces.  I continue to add pieces to The Fiber Mosaic Series.

The Travel Series

This series is also ongoing, being added to as I travel, but also as I pull memories from prior wanderings and living situations and put them into my work.

As with all my other work, there is a crossover component.  Green Day Meditations is made from  pages from a calendar I purchased in China; the two Stone Path pieces are made from Chinese newspapers I also brought back from China.  Anemones, Tidepool and Waterways are about my explorations under and around the sea; Seinside Rain was inspired by a trip to Paris; Desert Windows, Mountain Voices and Mountain Sunrise came from living in New Mexico. I created the piece To Wander This World while immersing myself in the Jonny Lang song “Wander This World” from his 1998 album  of the same name, recorded when he was just 17... he is an amazing talent.  `That said, Arctic Oasis is not the result of a trip to the Arctic!
